The Greatest Awakenings


In the middle of the sadness
the anger
the fear
can you find a way
to give yourself some kindness,
some sweetness?
Something simple
like taking a deep breath
and looking up at the clear blue sky,
or sipping at a hot cup of tea,
or taking a big gulp
of fresh cold water
or walking briskly
in the wind
or searching for Orion
in the night sky…
can you do something
to remind yourself
that this feeling
isn’t all there is–
it isn’t all of who you are?
It doesn’t have to be something
huge and dramatic.
Sometimes the most simple
can lead to the greatest
