Some Other Experience

Consumed by inner darkness today,
for no particular reason.
Maybe it is because I miss the mountains
or perhaps the family that was so welcoming,
caring and nurturing;
it is probably a combination of the two–
but is it necessary to pinpoint the cause?
Emotions are endless rivers
and our bodies channel them this way and that
for a small time.
Let me allow them to pass through me,
cleansing me,
making room for some other experience.

  1. Thank you for both wise reminders: that we needn’t pinpoint the source or cause of every emotion and that emotions are, indeed, rivers that we can, and should, allow to flow through us. That latter wisdom reminds me of Rumi’s “Guest House:” “This being human is a guest house/Every morning a new arrival/ A joy, a depression….Welcome and entertain them all!….” Namaste ❤

    • You are so welcome friend…and it’s true, I’m such a devotee of Rumi’s work that I guess he can’t help but speak through me now and again. ❤
