NaPoWriMo 2018, Day 25: Warning

Standard

Today I experienced an emotional trigger—like the sting before tears fall—as the first words of the poem immediately leapt in my mind upon reading the prompt. I’m feeling raw today. Low and lonely, without a safe harbor in the world. God help me.

****************
Warning:
Thinks too much.
Don’t get too close.
May share opinion without being asked.
May care too much.
May fall in love with you immediately.
May get too attached.
May think there is a future with you.
May believe her own dream.
May waste away to nothing
when the dream falls apart.
Mentally unstable.
Run in the opposite direction
if you see her coming.

  1. I don’t think that was a helpful prompt – who needs to even think about “warnings” about us?! There are always two sides to every characteristic. All of those things that you see as characteristics that warrant warnings, are the very same things that I feel we should celebrate. Just because your hopes, commitment, dream etc didn’t work out this time, doesn’t mean you should change. I think this prompt was particularly unhelpful for you at the moment. How about this one:

    Celebrate!!
    Thinks deeply.
Finds and shares insight which others choose to follow.
    Deeply empathetic.
    Passionate and spontaneous.
    Committed.
    Hopeful.
    Optimistic.
Vulnerable but with the strength to hold on.
    Dynamic.
If you see her coming, give her a hug and remind her that life is full of ups and downs and that when you’re down, there’s a whole heap of ups just ahead.

I like that one a whole lot more 🙂 xx
