Can You Relate?

Standard

So what WOULD happen
if I stopped trying so hard?
I mean, would the world spin off its axis?
Would the universe become unhinged?
Would people think less of me?
The answer is definitely NO to the first two,
and MAYBE to the third,
and in the end,
what does it really matter?
How do I stop trying so hard
after years and years and years
of my nervous system believing
that I would die if I didn’t?
I take a few breaths
and sigh loudly as I exhale.
I feel my body soften and relax.
My heart opens a little more,
my belly isn’t clenched so tightly,
the knots begin to untie.
None of this makes sense,
but maybe some of you can relate?

The End In Sight

Standard

We’re all in this together.
To believe otherwise
is to close yourself off
from what will save you.
We were all born,
we will all one day die.
Let the reality of your life
one day ending
wake you up
to the connections in your life,
the connections
that really mean something to you.
When you lie on your death bed,
you won’t care how much money
you have in the bank
or how many cars you have in your garage
or how big your house is.
You will only be asking,
Did I love as much as I could?
Did I live the best way I could?

If you died tomorrow,
what would be your regrets?
If you have any,
it’s time to start living!

The Guiding Light

Standard

I realized that what hurt the worst
was losing our shared experience
of life together,
raising our children together,
for the togetherness gave me so much meaning,
gave me an identity, a purpose,
a compass, a guiding light…
and suddenly that was gone.
Suddenly we were always at odds…
and suddenly he was with another.
Now he is preparing to leave our home,
a most final step in this process of dissolution,
and the pain gets triggered once more.
I look back on what I wrote,
I turn it around to myself.
What hurt the worst
was losing my individual experience
of life with myself,
raising my inner child, myself—
for this autonomy gave me so much meaning,
gave me an identity, a purpose,
a compass, a guiding light…
and suddenly that was gone.
When I embrace this turnaround,
I can see it is just as true or even truer
that what I wrote before.
Now my work is to live the turnaround,
reclaim my inner child, this Self,
the One in me who IS the guiding light.

Are You Willing to Pay?

Standard

Help is everywhere,
all around us,
but we won’t see it
if we’re searching for
the help to arrive
in a particular form.
On the journey to freedom,
our eyes need to be set free
from the mind that tells them
how to see.
Our minds need to be set free
from the will that demands
things turn out a certain way.
And our wills need to be set free
from the prison of our conditioning.
Such freedom comes at a great cost:
We must be willing to let go
of who we were
in order to be who we are now.
Do you long for such freedom?
Are you willing to pay for it?

Do You Really Know?

Standard

Where are you?
Do you really know?
Do you really want to know?
Do you really need to know?
Who are you?
Do you really know?
Do you really want to know?
Do you really need to know?
Why are you here?
Do you really know?
Do you really want to know?
Do you really need to know?
What is happiness really?
Do you really know?
Do you really want to know?
Do you really need to know?
Who is this self that looks out into the world?
Do you really know?
Do you really want to know?
Do you really need to know?
What is peace?
Do you really know?
Do you really want to know?
Do you really need to know?
Could you allow yourself not to know?

No Delineations

Standard

Every once in a while,
ask yourself,
Why am I here?
Get still, close your eyes,
go inside, and listen.
At first you might hear
some reasons that sound
familiar;
these are the reasons
you’ve used to tell the story
of the self you think you are.
But listen a little more deeply.
Allow a deeper why to emerge.
The personal why
and the universal why
can coexist; they can merge,
flowing into one another
with no delineations,
the way a drop of rain
joins the ocean
and can no longer be perceived
as separate.
