Nothing But Trust

Standard

I was up late last night praying.
I keep thinking about sleeping
but the Divine Mother’s beauty
enticed me
to think about staying.
I kept asking for a sign,
as I was led into spirals
of thoughts and words
showing me where to look,
on which page and in which book,
to see and feel and know
what to resolve,
what to consider,
what to ponder,
what to surrender,
and how to just to BE in this life
as it is right now.
I woke up at my regular time,
sat in morning meditation.
I could feel her magic
working through me still.
Now I find myself
awake in the dark again,
wondering
what she will do with me tonight.
There is nothing left for me to do
but trust.

Ready For Something New?

Standard

Ok, so I get it.
Life isn’t simple or easy.
It’s a struggle, right?
It’s normal to feel down, right?
It’s normal to feel angry,
sad, uptight, out of sorts.
Don’t complain.
Do your duty.
But wait.
What if it weren’t
necessarily this way?
Stop.
Get still.
Close your eyes.
Breathe OUT fully.
Then breathe in.
Breathe in more.
Hold this breath in.
Wait
Wait
Wait
Wait
Wait
Wait more.
Then exhale slowly.
Exhale all the way.
Exhale more.
Get really empty.
How do you feel now?
Are you ready now?
Ready for something new?

Retreat Day 4: Ceremony & Solo Circle

Standard

We are heading out
into the desert
after a day of journeying
and ceremony.
We are tired
and here we go again
into the desert
to create a solo circle
and sit alone in the dark.
Our guide told us
Watch how the ego
wants to deny you
a new experience.
Stay with what you’re feeling.
Just stay.
Wish us luck!

Retreat Day 2: Journeying

Standard

We drove to a valley surrounded by beautiful, gentle mountains, a desert landscape, scrubby junipers, yellowing sycamores.  There was a creek  not far off from where we set up our circle of chairs and its soft chatter provided a melodious and comforting backdrop to the deep work we did.

The medicine woman spoke:

Prepare yourself for a journey
back home.
You will be sitting, breathing,
going within.
Searching for guidance,
we listened to the drum
sounding the heartbeat
of the Earth Mother.
Trust, go inside, listen.
Make contact with
an animal spirit
and ask what its gifts are,
what you are meant
to be activating in your own life.
After each journey
we would share our insights.
I found myself moved to tears
many times today.
Profoundly exhausted
I realized
that sometimes the most subtle journeys
are the most tiring,
asking for every ounce of will
even as they impart the most precious gifts.

Just This Once

Standard

I discover that
when I breathe more
I enjoy life more.
I relax,
my body feels good,
I have energy.
I’ve been working on
establishing a deep, slow,
steady breath
for years now and
I know that it feels good
when I breathe consciously.
So the work becomes
remembering to breathe
during the day.
Thank you, oh mind,
for giving me the gift
of conscious breathing
in this moment.
Thank you for waking up from the trance
long enough to remember
to breathe just this once.

Your Body Will Understand

Standard

Try this
if you’re feeling depleted
and wanting
to experience abundance:
Consider that whenever you’re experiencing abundance
you’re also having the experience of being fully alive.
Breathing sustains the physical and emotional
experience of being fully alive
by reinforcing the perception
that life is movement,
a constant transition from
fullness to emptiness.
Try breathing slowly and deeply a few times.
Even if your mind doesn’t,
your body will understand
exactly what I mean.
