Don’t Stop Looking

Standard

I keep asking God,
the Universe,
All That Is,
How may I serve you?
I keep waiting for an answer.
I want to look back on my lifeĀ and know
I loved as much as I could
I gave as much as I could
I lived life to the fullest.
So what do I need to see there
in the record of my years
to be peaceful on my deathbed?
How may I serve you?
I want to know how my life force
can bring joy to others’ lives.
I want to reach more people.
I want to help more.
I have no idea
what shape my offering will take,
but I know it’s bigger
than what I’m doing now.
How may I serve you?
How can my life energy
make other people’s lives better?
I guess that this is where faith comes in…
I ask the question
and then I don’t stop looking
until I find the answer.

Called to Serve

Standard

Thinking about expanding my offerings,
wanting to reach out, help out more,
and asking…
Whom do I feel called to serve?
The answer is…Everyone.
All beings.
The Earth.
Forests.
Animals.
Moms who are hard on themselves.
Children.
People who long to express themselves creatively
but who feel too scared..
People who want to escape the daily grind
but don’t know how…
Those who are suicidal
Those who are self-critical
Those who long to be free
of the constraints that were handed to them.
I feel called to serve everyone.
So now I ask
God, how do I navigate this?
How do I answer this calling?
And God says
Just keep breathing.
It will all be clear soon enough.
For now, do your practices;
breathe deeply. Trust. Have faith.
You are on the right track.

Answer the Call

Standard

If the quickest path to misery
is self-absorption
then the quickest path to joy
is placing your attention on others,
seeing what you can give,
how you can help,
where you can go
to enrich the lives of others.
At the end of your life,
is it the piles of money
you will have amassed,
or the big house
or the fancy car
that will matter?
Or…
will you be able
to say with confidence
I gave all I had
and I loved with my whole heart.
I feel complete now,
knowing that I brought joy
to the people in my life…?
Each day we choose
one or the other…
self absorption
or the kind of selflessness
that can heal the whole world.
You matter.
Your actions matter.
The love you give matters.
Now, more than ever,
the world needs you.
Will you answer the call?

Making a Difference

Standard

At the end of the day
feeling tired,
completely spent,
and happy about this.
I gave of myself today,
I gave the best of myself today,
and what better way
could I possibly live?
When it’s time for me
to leave this body
I shall like to look back
and see many days like this one,
knowing that as I gave my all
somehow my presence
made a difference in the lives of others.

If Not Us, Who?

Standard

Sit down
close your eyes
be still
go inwards.
Ask
How can I best
be of service?
Listen.
If we can
get out of our
habitual mindset
for two seconds
we might see
that there is
a whole world
out there,
and many
opportunities
to love and to give
and to experience
ourselves as more
than who we thought we were.
Peace on Earth starts here.
If not us, who?
If not now, when?
