One Little Life

The purpose of the Dark Night
is to better see the light of day
when dawn arrives
and we realize we are still living.
The hurt we feel
helps keep us real
for all others who are hurting.
And the steps we take to heal the hurt
give us the strength to show up
and convey the honest truth
to those who have forgotten.
In the fullness of time
the wounds heal
and reveal the delicate dance
of life balancing on the precipice
of sadness and joy.
Come to the balance point
and regard the potential for both,
inside, outside,
everywhere around you.
Trust that there are no mistakes
and allow the dance to inform
the deepest layers of your being.
Always in a space of becoming,
we are all dreamers, doers, thinkers,
lovers, artists, scoundrels
and precious fools
fumbling through this one little life.

Shining For You

What begins as a sad, sober moment
ends as a hearty celebration,
and the things we thought we lost
have just taken another form.
Why grieve, then?
If nothing is lost
why are we searching?
Each question is a little twinkling star
in the grandest night sky of silent knowing.
Keep asking
and maybe you will see
all the lights are shining
for you.

Life is the Path

A friend who is close to
15 years my junior
wrote about the uncertainty
of her life right now,
the turmoil in which she finds herself,
how challenging it is for her right now.
I remembered being 25,
full of turmoil,
full of debt,
thinking there was something wrong,
hoping a spiritual master would show up
and show me the way.
One day way back then
I imagined who I would be as an old woman,
smiling, peaceful, happy, content.
Reaching through time,
taking both my hands in hers,
she reassured me that it would all be okay.
I cried and trusted her.
Today, I ask my present self
to reach back to my younger self
and reassure her once again.
She, who was so full of doubt,
would be happy to know
that my life has great purpose now.
She, who was so anxious to
see a clear path
would be happy to know
that she has no choice
but to always be on the right path.
There is no wrong path.
There is only one path.
Life is the path.
