The Desired Outcome

Standard

What is the desired outcome?
I want to move forward.
Yes, of course, but…
What is the desired outcome?
I want to be self-supporting.
Yes, yes, yes, we know! But…
What is the desired outcome?
Healing from heartache,
forgiving everyone,
creating something wonderful.

Of course that’s what you want, but…
What is the desired outcome?
Um, I don’t know?
Yes you do. C’mon—
what is the desired outcome?

Beloved Fragrance

Standard

I’ve been searching for something out there,
sometimes catching a whiff of its fragrance
in the wind.
It would render me melancholy
to sense it but experience it
so far away,
when my heart longed for this thing
I could not know.
Sometimes it was a rush of cold air
into my nostrils
as I stepped from my grandmother’s house
into the winter night
and I’d search for the star
in the dark blue sky
that told me the light
was returning soon.
For the longest time
I feared the magic and suppressed it
much to my heart’s dismay.
The whole world seemed cold and dark
and I was trapped in a prison
of my own making.
Spirit came to rattle me out of my cage
and throw me into the light of day.
Such a fool I was,
resisting a project of God’s hand.
How can I stop the ocean from surging?
How can I move the sun in the sky?
How can I make the moon glow brightly?
How can I give the gift of new life?
I only experience these things
because consciousness pours through me.
Who made this consciousness,
the perceiver and the perceived?
My body speaks clearly.
Its language is believed.
I trust the longing in me now.
The magic in me swells alive within.
I open the door to the cold and dark everywhere
and catch its beloved fragrance on the wind.

Home

Standard

My cup is spilling over,
with joy, gratitude, connection.
I have arrived fully in this moment,
standing in the center of my self.
The one who sought fulfillment,
the one who wanted to be loved,
the one who longed to be seen, heard and held,
the one who desired safety, protection,
the one who wished to be taken care of,
the one who yearned to know God’s love—
that one takes a deep breath,
smiles,
looks around,
and knows that she is home.

Take Action

Standard

Breathing.
Remembering life is right now.
I keep questioning,
realizing there are no answers.
Questions are doors and windows
to new possibilities;
my spirit challenges me
to believe.
Is this faith,
to believe there is more
out there for me
even though I can’t
see it
taste it
smell it
touch it
feel it?
I breathe.
I summon gratitude,
courage,
conviction.
Now, God,
help me take action.

Before The Dream

Standard

Something is slipping away.
Is it the love I once felt,
or is it the illusion of love
making way for a new truth?
I see him and I’m still grieving,
but something new is there;
a hope, a wish, a desire
for a better life,
a bigger adventure,
a time when I can be held
by someone who loves
without the need to keep tabs.
Back in this room,
back in this house,
our house,
I wonder how much more life I’ll live
before the dream becomes reality.

Happiness Comes From Within

Standard

At the root of any desire
is the belief
that if we get the thing we want
it will make us happy.

But we fool ourselves with this belief.
As soon as we get what we want,
another desire jumps in to take the place
of the desire fulfilled,
in a never-ending stream
of wanting, wanting, wanting.

And we live like this,
frantically jumping
from craving to craving,
trying desperately to find fulfillment.

This is the prison we are in,
Where we are the warden,
We are the prisoner.
And we are the key.

If we are ever to escape from our dark prison
into the fresh clear daylight of this beautiful world,
it is essential
that we identify our specific desires
and question them, each and every one.

Do they stem from the drive
to prove our self worth to ourselves or the world?
If so, time to calmly and firmly let those desires go.

But if we discover a desire
to express our truest self,
and in that expression
feel so ecstatically, blissfully happy
that we light the way for others to do the same,
by all means, do what needs to be done
to manifest this desire
with all your powers of creation!

We might eventually discover
that the experience of the specific joys
we’re dreaming about
is simply a reflection
of the universal, inexhaustible joy
that flows from our truest selves.

Happiness come from within.
Anyone telling you anything different
is trying to sell you something.

The Power of Attachment

Standard

I set myself up for it.
I thought for sure it would be mine.
I projected into the future
and created many moments of enjoyment
imagining what I would say and do
and how it would all feel…
and then,
and then
I was told it was given to someone else.
Misery.
Disappointment.
Wanting to know why I wasn’t the chosen one.
And herein lies the power of attachment
to bring one to one’s knees in pain
with weapons that do not exist,
mourning the loss of something that never was.
