I Came Close

Standard

I spent the day in deep listening,
self-care
laid heart and soul bare
before daring wayfarers
who walk this path with me.
I danced with the trees,
looked up to the sun
reached out to the water
felt down to the earth
breathed in the wind
and out my fears.
I transformed from closed and scared
to fluid and light body
loving song through the forest
at top of lungs fearlessly.
To whomever says heaven
isn’t on earth:
I have something to share…
Today I came close.

Waiting For A Promise

Standard

Watching.
Waiting.
Wanting.
Cultivating patience
(not an easy task.)
Holding a vision.
Embracing discipline.
Trusting.
Asking.
Believing.
And then…
tending to the tenderness,
and breathing into
the gaping open places,
the void that was left
the last time around.
Openness and readiness
are a call for fulfillment,
but not its promise.
I am waiting for that promise.

My Heart Says

Standard

I show up here
wanting to say something profound.
Something about change,
and surmounting obstacles,
and moving through grief to joy.
And then…blank.
Nothing.
Maybe a little anxiety
about saying the right thing.
I’m caught up in my head again,
so I take a moment
to close my eyes,
drop into my heart,
listen.
My heart says,
Sweetheart, relax.
You don’t need to be good.
You don’t need to be profound.
Just love this body,
and love this mind,
and love this spirit.
Let this love be enough,
for now.

Always At Choice

Standard

Always at choice.
We can choose to see
what bothers us,
focusing on feelings of
pain, fear, anger, loss…
We can choose to see
what we love,
focusing on beauty, peace,
joy, abundance.
We can be conscious or unconscious
as we make these choices,
but always, always,
we are at choice.
I’m working on the discipline
required to choose mindfully.
I’m working on choosing
how I want to feel,
and cultivating
thoughts, words and behaviors
that will bring me to experience
these better feelings.
God,
help me to remember
I’m always at choice,
and help me to choose
what will uplift and inspire.
Thank you.

In the Midst of Chaos

Standard

Where is the balance point
between the effort and the ease?
Where is the grace
that allows forgiveness to find me?
Where is the sweet one
who will coax my heart out of hiding?
Where is the soul nourishment
that will sustain me?
I keep trying, trying, trying.
I’m exhausted from the effort
of teasing apart the jumbled mess
of other people’s perceptions
and finding my true self
concealed somewhere deep within.
Where am I,
who am I,
in the midst of all of this chaos?

A Prayer for Awakening

Standard

May I drop the tendency to believe
that there is something wrong with this moment,
and may I embrace reality as it is right now.
Without judgment, criticism, or blame,
may I see what needs to be done
and do it, without attachment to results.
May I wake up to the love that I am,
and you are, and this world is.
May my awakening awaken others.
May I see the value in my life
and live it fearlessly,
in awareness of my true self,
for the benefit of all beings.
