NaPoWriMo 2020 Day 12

Standard

I had fun with this one, friends! If you haven’t created a triolet before, try it out. Here’s the NaPoWriMo prompt for the day. And here is my triolet…🌱

A Triolet For A Spring Evening

Because it is dusk and the light is receding
I’ll speak my heart quickly and be on my way.
I never told you what I was really needing
because it is dusk and the light is receding
and any words you speak may be misleading…
You appear much different in the light of day.
Because it is dusk and the light is receding
I’ll speak my heart quickly and be on my way.

NaPoWriMo Day 28: A Skeltonic Poem About Freedom and Joy

Standard

I wish there were a way
to open my heart and sway
letting go of all dismay,
body breathing I pray,
arms reaching for the sun,
dancing until I’m done.
Is this dance just for one?
No, it has just begun.
There will be others:
fathers, Β brothers,
sisters, mothers.
Everyone in this world
will follow where others have twirled
like trees with leaves unfurled,
experiencing the ecstasy
of breathing utterly free
blessing the union of you and me,
and everybody, everybody, everybody.

If you have been following my blog, you know that most of my poems have no rhyme schemes at all…they are mostly free verse poems following musing and rumination and in general wanting to experience freedom from any creative constraint. Today, however, the NaPoWriMo prompt invited us to try out Skeltonic verse, and I took up the challenge. It’s good to step out of one’s comfort bubble every once in a while. Just on the other side of the bubble is our fullest potential, just waiting for us to reach it.

NaPoWriMo Day 14: San San

Standard

Another challenging prompt today…and it’s late, and I’m halfway considering reverting to my default free-verse poem of the day, but willpower is the mother of all virtues, and methinks I will help build some more of it by JUST DOING THIS.

San San rhyme scheme:Β Β a-b-c-a-b-d-c-d
General idea…use three images and repeat them three times each within an eight line poem sticking to the rhyme scheme. A bit complicated, perhaps–especially to my tired mind. Β But I must start somewhere, decide on three images…hmm. How about some things I love?

1)achingly beautiful peaks
2)clear blue sky
3)wide open heart

Okay, here goes:

Alone I stand looking out upon achingly beautiful peaks
partnering gently, completely with the clear blue sky–
reminding me of the vastness of my wide open heart.
This sky blue dress the great mother wears stirs as she speaks
her wind-language. My aching heart opens wings to fly Β
across the beautiful peaks. The sun bends down to kiss
the clearest of blue skies, while thought curtains part
revealing the peaks of this wide, open-hearted bliss.
