Glorious Freedom

Standard

Awakening to this day,
I realize this is the only day.
Breathing in this moment,
I realize this is the only moment.
Oh glorious freedom!
I don’t need to lament the past
or fear the future,
because past and future are constructs of my mind—
all that exists is NOW,
everything happens in this one beautiful moment.
Let us breathe deeply, together, then—
let us awaken together.
Let us feel this freedom together,
on this day,
in this moment,
breathing this one breath.
Peace.

Some Day is Right Now

Standard

Could I simply relax into this moment,
dive off the rigid, wire thin line of “normal”
and just immerse myself in this ocean of being?
I want to know what it’s like to love fully,
to feel content, at peace with myself,
to look out into the world
with eyes of compassion,
to cherish all beings
with the immense heart of the Buddha.
I think all of this will happen some day,
and then I remember,
it all has to happen right now.
And then I realize
Some day IS right now.

The Calling

Standard

I am called to let go
as I hold on
and to be still
as I move

I am called to find silence
as I speak
and compassion
as the sparks of reactivity
ignite flames of cruelty

I am asked to find courage
in moments of deepest fear
and patience
when I think I can wait no longer

Ah, this human being-ness–
this island of oneness
in the turbulent sea of duality,
this bright, clear timelessness
underlying the shadow field of time.
